ARTISANS ON THE GREEN - OUR CENTENNIAL YEAR

August 6, 2026, 10 am-4 pm

Artisans on the Green (AOG) is an annual event held during Sandwich Old Home Week. AOG is sponsored by the Sandwich Home Industries which is celebrating its 100th year in 2026. Representing the legacy of SHI as a "home crafts industry" across a wide variety of artistic media, artisans from across the Lakes Region and beyond will offer items for sale and demonstrations of their artistic process.  

The fair is located on the Town Green in Center Sandwich, NH, in front of the historic Sandwich Home Industries building. As one of the foundational highlights in our Centennial year celebration, AOG will offer:

• Open SHI Gallery featuring over 40 artists, both juried and local, who contribute to the richness of our historic home crafts industry

• A record number of artisans offering their art and demonstrations on the Green.

• Activities for children. 

• Music by local artists.  

• A wonderful lunch on the Green, hosted by the Sandwich Women’s Club. 

• A raffle held by the Sandwich Women’s Club with proceeds supporting programs for children of the local community.

A COMMUNITY ART SHOW EVOLVES TO SANDWICH'S ANNUAL ARTISANS ON THE GREEN
 

Well over a hundred and twenty years ago, the Town of Sandwich began to participate in Old Home Week, an annual statewide celebration of rural life.  That townwide August event continues to this day in recognition of the history, community spirit, energy and creativity of the town.  An early part of the community’s involvement in the celebration was the Old Home Week Art Show that welcomed local artists and children to show their work and promote craft education.
 

The Art Show grew over the years and by 2000 over sixty artisans were showing their work.  Organizers and many other volunteers worked to create and bring to fruition an organizational structure that guaranteed the Art Show would become an annual event.  In the 2000’s Sandwich Home Industries became a sponsor of the Art Show.  By 2009, with the expanded interest and energy of artists in Sandwich and beyond, the current annual Artisans on the Green (AOG) took shape. This annual event brings visitors to the Town of Sandwich and income to the many talented artisans who participate.  AOG now operates under the leadership of the Sandwich Home Industries and with the continued permission of the Quimby Trustees for use of the Town Green.
 

From the early days of two-dimensional art to today’s educational demonstrations of multiple crafts, as well as the robust sale of remarkable work from many disciplines and media (e.g. pottery, wood, fiber, glass, painting, jewelry, printmaking, and photography) the Artisans on the Green event (AOG) welcomes artisans from across New Hampshire each year. The sales and demonstrations of crafts on Town Green and inside the historic Sandwich Home Industries building are a vital part of promoting arts and crafts throughout the region.
