Reading Knitting Charts

Date: Wednesday June 3 10am-12pm

Do you avoid knitting patterns with Charts? This class is designed to demystify symbols and give you confidence to use this useful tool. We will look at descriptions of patterns knitted flat as well as in the round. Basic lace, cables and textured patterns will be covered. Students are encouraged to bring a pattern or project that stumped them, along with size 7 or 8 knitting needles and light-colored worsted wool weight yarn.

Needlepoint Sampler

Date: Wednesday June 10 & 17  1pm-3pm

This class is for beginners or those who wish to relearn eight different stitches. Students will create either a wall hanging or pillow. Each student will take home a finished canvas with instructions on finalizing their creation. Students will need to bring small scissors.

Amate Bark Painting

Date: Saturday June 20, 10am-1pm

Create a unique painting on Bark paper from Mexico. You will look at a variety of bark paintings and the characteristics of this painting style.
Some drawing skills are helpful Students will take home a completed painting.

Quilled Greeting Card

Date: Tuesday & Wednesday June 23 & 24 10am -2pm

This is a class for beginners that would like an introduction to paper Quilling. Students will learn the basic shapes and apply this knowledge to creating two notecards.
Students will need small sharp scissors and magnifying glass (if desired)

Peg Loom Rug Weaving

Date: Friday June 26 11am – 4pm

Participants will learn to weave a 30” wide rug from wool roving on a peg loom. Originally known as ‘stick weaving,’ the craft is the ancient and widely used precursor to loom weaving, from neolithic Egypt to the pre-Columbian Great Lakes region. Printed illustrated instructions will be provided. Students can bring their own peg looms and/or wool roving (2.5lbs needed). Cotton warping thread and peg looms will be provided.

Animal Drawing

Date: Tuesday June 30 10am-4pm

An introduction to drawing form in motion - a good family activity. We will start at the Field Fine Art Gallery with an introduction to drawing animals, basic geometric shapes, exploring line, shape and form. The class will introduce many different mediums for drawing, charcoal, ink, brush work, colored pencils and paint. The morning half of the class will be done indoors working with creating drawings based on a wide array of photographs. Then we will drive 5 minutes to a friend's farm where we will draw goats, alpacas, and chickens. All materials will be provided by the instructor; but you are welcome to bring your own sketchbook and favorite drawing tools. This class meets at the instructor’s studio.
